Magnifying the interests and talents of our students one fellowship at a time

People at Juniata connect to each other and to prestigious academic opportunities recognized the world over.

"I have always felt like the possibilities at Juniata are limitless."Nikea Ulrich '16

Being part of a learning community means a lot more than being an enrolled student. It’s about being valued and supported at every step. Belonging to a community like ours is one reason why our students stick around—96 percent graduate in four or fewer years. It’s also why so many Juniata students receive prestigious awards called fellowships—substantial scholarships that allow people to pursue a specific type of academic study.

The competition for fellowships is fierce. Receiving one of these awards comes with great prestige.

Juniata faculty and staff have become experts in the world of fellowships, and they help students unlock extraordinary opportunities every year — which helps students graduate from Juniata with a jumpstart on a career or a spot in graduate school, 90 percent of whom do so within six months of receiving their degree.

Fellowships are available to both graduate and undergraduate students, making international travel and intensive research possible for students who might otherwise not have the resources to cover the cost. Plus, fellowships open students up to scholarly and professional networks that provide lifelong benefits.

Why do Juniata students have the fellowship advantage?

There’s a distinct benefit to attending a college of the size of Juniata. Our close-knit community is united in our commitment to be our students’ partners. Here, each student has two academic advisers who are ready to help put their personally designed educational plan into action.

Also, because there are fellowships in a wide range of fields and with specific requirements, we’ve created a network of professors who each become experts in one or two fellowships. They are always on the lookout for good candidates among the student body, whether a student is on a committed graduate school track or not.

Fellowships can be worth many thousands of dollars, and the application process is involved, requiring a detailed explanation of qualifications and plans for what to do with the fellowship award. There’s an interview process that requires focused preparation to get right. But, Juniata students have a mentor personally coaching them through the whole process, so they apply with confidence.

The good news is, our faculty are experts at helping students win fellowships. In fact, nearly 200 Juniata students have been awarded fellowships in the past two decades.

Fellowships come in many forms.

At Juniata, we’ve helped match students with dozens of different fellowship opportunities. They are often awarded or named finalists.
